Which is quite understandable as there is precious little agreement even in the literature available on the internet. I have found a couple of definitions below that I believe adequately capture the essence of the difference.<\/p>\n<h3>Framework:<\/h3>\n<p><strong>In general, a framework is a real or conceptual structure intended to serve as a support or guide for the building of something that expands the structure into something useful.<\/strong><br \/>\nSource: <a href=\"http:\/\/whatis.techtarget.com\/definition\/framework\">http<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/whatis.techtarget.com\/definition\/framework\">:\/\/<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/whatis.techtarget.com\/definition\/framework\">whatis.techtarget.com\/definition\/framework<\/a><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>Framework = WHAT (and perhaps WHY)<\/b><\/h4>\n<h3>Methodology:<\/h3>\n<p><strong>A documented approach for performing activities in a coherent, consistent, accountable, and repeatable manner.<\/strong><br \/>\nSource: <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Treasury_Enterprise_Architecture_Framework\">http<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Treasury_Enterprise_Architecture_Framework\">:\/\/<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Treasury_Enterprise_Architecture_Framework\">en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Treasury_Enterprise_Architecture_Framework<\/a><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>Methodology = HOW<\/b><\/h4>\n<h3>Key Distinctions<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Frameworks are high level (high enough that all organizations could see their work in it) while methodologies are specific to the organizations they are developed in.<\/li>\n<li>Frameworks can be applied anywhere (are interchangeable) while methodologies tend to only work where they were developed.<\/li>\n<li>Methodologies are step by step instructions and are developed based on frameworks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>The PMBOK is a framework applicable to all projects.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/themercers.ca\/OrderOutOfChaos\/images\/PMBOK-5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/themercers.ca\/OrderOutOfChaos\/images\/PMBOK-5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"154\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>The Island Health Project Management Methodology is specific to the organization.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/themercers.ca\/OrderOutOfChaos\/images\/Island-Health-Project-Methodology-6.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/themercers.ca\/OrderOutOfChaos\/images\/Island-Health-Project-Methodology-6.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div id=\"themify_builder_content-555\" data-postid=\"555\" class=\"themify_builder_content themify_builder_content-555 themify_builder\">\n    <\/div>\n<!-- \/themify_builder_content -->\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I often come across misunderstandings in what a framework is versus a methodology.
